Summer is officially here (despite what it looks like outside here in the Pacific Northwest :-) ) and I am here to offer you a challenge.

The majority of my patients are under too much stress and are feeling the effects either mentally (depression, anxiety) or physically (upper back pain, headaches, lower back pain…).

Making some little changes will make a big difference in how you feel.  So here comes the challenge.

Every Day:

1.          Drink 8 – 8 ounce glasses of water.

2.          Walk for 20 minutes.  This can be split up in smaller increments so you can walk on your breaks and lunch.

3.          Take 10 deep abdominal breaths every hour. (Your tummy goes out when you breathe in and goes in when you breathe out).

4.          Wiggle (roll your shoulders back and forth) for 20 seconds every hour.

That is it!  You can do it.  I will make the commitment to do this with you.  Take the calendar and check off your progress.

Goji berries are commonly grown in Tibet and Mongolia.  Goji berries have a very high level of antioxidants.  Some of the possible health benefits may include reduced blood pressure, lowered cholesterol, increased liver function as well as increased memory.

It has been reported that only a small (a very small handful) of the goji berry taken on a daily basis could benefit your overall health.  The berries can simply be blended up into your daily shake or smoothie.

Recenlty I’ve started doing research on different “superfoods”.  One of the first superfoods I would like to share with you is maca powder – sometimes known as The Incan Superfood.  Maca powder is derived from a root that grows in Peru.  In clinical studies maca has been shown to lower stress levels, improve memory, and increase oxygen in the blood.  It has also been reported that maca can be used for enhancing physical performance/energy.  Recently maca has become a very popular additive to morning health shakes/smoothies.

Have you ever taken the time to add up the prices of gym equipment?  There’s upper body, lower body, and cario machines.  Each piece of professional gym equipment costs a minimum of $1,500.00 a piece.  Just three pieces of equipment would set you back $4,500.00.

For about $100 you could get a kettlebell.  Your kettlebell will deliver your upper body workout, lower body, and it will give you your cardio.  So, you can skip the chest press machine at the gym and do an overhead press. using the kettlebell.  You can skip the ab machine and do some weighted sit-ups using your kettlebell.  You can also skip the treadmill and instead do some kettlebell swings.

The kettlebell truly is an all in one gym.  Remember, it doesn’t have to cost a fortune to work out.

I am challenging you to drink 8 glasses of filtered water, walk for at least 10 minutes (yes, in a row), and get at least 5 minutes of sunshine on your face (weather permitting).

You can do this! :-)

Have a terrific Thursday.
